This talk "Metocean records of climate variability and change, for coastal planning, management and engineering" was presented at the WA State NRM Conference.
It attempted to highlight that metocean parameters vary with season and climate, but also that the meaning of the parameters varies between applications. So consequently, while we need to consider climate indices either when extrapolating a brief observation period, or if interpreting a parametric trend, climate evaluation often needs to consider the application.
... and just to provide a small pathway forward...
One of the key tools that we collectively seem to be missing out on this the use of landform-evidence to enhance our understanding of coastal dynamics.
